HAPPY MEMBER MONDAY!
THIS WEEK WE INTERVIEWED TGS MEMBER AND GORGEOUS MORE TALENT MODEL
E m i l y G a m b o a
CONTINUE SCROLLING TO LEARN A LITTLE ABOUT HER!
Tell us about yourself!
I am a model with More Talent Agency, I started this journey when I saw that there was an open call in LA. Since high school I've always tried to study other models, practice posing, and research agencies. I finally got myself to walk into open calls and submit to agencies, but unfortunately all of them rejected me. I took it as a learning experience and learned that I needed more then to just talk about what I can do. I needed a portfolio. So when I got a professional camera, I learned to take timed photos of myself and taught some friends to help me build a portfolio. I loved that there was no height, weight, certain look requirements with MORE Talent. I showed up to the casting and brought in photos from when I would just shoot with my friends and freelance for aspiring designers. The next day I received an email to sign on with the team!
What inspired you to pursue your current creative path?
I am a model. I was inspired by clothes when I decided that I wanted to pursue modeling. When I was little my mom brought home bags of clothes from a friend of hers. It was filled with colorful vintage pieces. I would get so excited to see what I can find and put together into an outfit. The clothing barely fit me so I couldn't exactly wear them in public. So I decided to put on fashion shows for my family in the living room. I remember wearing a bright red pea coat and a white hat that had a pink flower on it along with holding my brown teddy bear. I would strut out of the kitchen into the living room and strut right back into another outfit. As I got older, I would get into my mom's heels and makeup and pretended to walk down a runway. I always found myself so excited for the monthly magazine issues my mom would get and dreamed of being like the models on the pages. That's when I knew fashion, modeling and all things alike is what I wanted to be apart of.
How did you find out about TGS?
I found TGS with MORE Talent Agency. Before I became apart of the More Talent family, I was always looking to get my foot into the door with any agency. On Instagram I saw on the explore page that MORE was holding an open call. I'm 5'7, requirements with modeling agencies can be pretty strict. So when I saw that there was no requirements at all, just come as you are, I knew I had to get up and go. That's when I met Alex! The next day is when she emailed me to join the family and then discovered TGS.
Why did you decide to join TGS?
When I got to attend my first TGS meet up, I had the most amazing experience. I loved the atmosphere of everyone working together. Everyone you meet has their own creative style and vision that you're creating a lot of amazing content in one day and in a one diverse space. As a model, It's hard to find a photographer to work with. Determining safety, agreeing on a creative vision, availability, and whether you're in the same area can be difficult. Alex provides that safe and motivating space.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I draw my inspiration from my surroundings and clothes. I love dreaming up and imagining things that can be put into something amazing. When I come across a unique location or piece of clothing that clicks with me, I start coming up with ways I can creatively shoot with it. As I mentioned before, with my mom coming home with bags of clothes for me, once in a while she does have that friend giving away a part of their closet and brings it home. I love finding that item I cling to the most and feeling inspired with what I can create in it.
Fave aesthetic, look or theme when shooting?
I love shooting with all looks and themes, but to pick one, I love the look of a raw photo with a natural candid look.
Do you have creative friends you like to meetup and brainstorm with?
Ever since I've been introduced to TGS I have met so many new creative and talented friends that I keep in touch with.
Most interesting story revolving around your creative medium?
A classic coke bottle and a dress that I was obsessed with. I called up my best friend and told her that we needed to do a photoshoot. She came over and I showed her the dress and we both noticed that right outside my apartment in the patio area the walls matched. This day felt like everything was meant to come together because not only the walls were a great fit, the day before we brought in cast iron tables and chairs for decoration and happened to fit the theme we were going for perfectly. I knew I needed one more thing. I go back inside and I find an empty classic coke bottle. Our photos came out amazing (at least we think so). Not sure if its interesting but it has to be the best shoot I've ever done with my best friend.
Random stuff about you?
Recently I got into sewing and I've been making small things like scrunchies and adding lettuce hems to old T-shirts making them into cute crop tops. I'm challenging myself to making a costume for this Halloween
