What made you get into Photography?

Photography was not always what I wanted to do. I found photography when I
moved out of my parents house for the first time. I was going to college as a
freshman at the time. I ended up getting a house at the beach with my good
friends that winter. When Christmas came around I asked for a camera for and
then I never looked back. I fell in love with the idea of documenting everything. I
started out in photography by only taking surf photos of my friends and shooting
astro at the beach where I taught my self how to shoot in manual and truly
understand what this whole photographic process was.

How did you find out about TGS?

I found about TGS through a college friend and mutual TGS member, Amanda
Walker. I was looking for ways to create with people and find a community of photo
friends when she shared with me TGS.

Why’d you join?

I joined TGS because I wanted to find an environment of like minded individuals to
create and build my portfolio as well as meet friends that can relate to the creative
process. Since joining, I have been nothing but grateful for what I have seen and
been apart of.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Inspiration is a thing that I am bombarded with on a daily basis. I mean look at our
phones, they are loaded with content at our finger tips. Besides Instagram, I have
also had a unique opportunity to work with one of the best photographers in the
world over last winter with taught me more then I have ever known.
I can’t say enough how much inspiration I get from my best friends that I surround
my self with. I truly believe in the environment that you put your self in has a huge
impact on what you see and create.

What’s your favorite way to get out of a creative rut?

I actually find my self in a creative rut on a monthly basis, it is just part of the
process and a natural way of finding what is next. If we didn’t; t go through ruts, we
wouldn’t grow. For me, I have to put my energy towards something else for a
while, like guitar or surfing. I will often just go through my images and process a
few to gather ideas through my older images. Sometimes slowing down a little can
speed things up.

Do you know other creatives you like to meet up and brainstorm with?

Since going to Photography school, I have a massive community that is constantly
creating and pushing the envelope. My really good friend Maya Sacks and I tend
to vibe really hard when we are in the same room by thinking of places and things
to shoot. My other friend Ella Degea who is also a TGS member are amazing
friends and will constantly be on the phone with advice and ideas. It is so
important to have close friends in the industry to use as sounding boards.

Random stuff about you?

I Have a few other aspects of my life that consume me other than photography. I
have always loved to surf and travel where there is waves. This was my outlet into
photography and now it is my outlet out of photography.
